Our primary mission is to support the development, review and implementation of appropriate policies and practices for enhancing effective pedagogies that address the challenge of quality and equity across the education system.

About Us

We are a network of international scholars, researchers and practitioners committed to providing technical assistance and support to enhance the effective use of data for improving decision making to establish more inclusive and equitable learning environments where all learners are empowered develop the innovation, creativity, and critical skills needed contribute to a more just and equitable world.

Our specific areas of focus include

  • Improving assessment and evaluation policies, systems, and practices across the education system.

Developing capacity-building programes enabling education ministries and stakeholders to implement data-driven assessments and evidence for decision-making systems to improve equity and quality

Enhancing the capacity of education officials to support schools leaders and teachers in addressing the learning needs of ALL learners, especially those from poor and marginalized backgrounds

Promoting teachers’ use of critical pedagogies and culturally responsive strategies for improving learning and learning outcomes for all learners.

Enhancing learning across Africa since 2011

Since 2011, our Assessment for Learning capacity development programmes have supported thousands of teachers and hundreds of subject advisors, to enhance their pedagogical practices and contribute to national efforts for provide quality education for ALL learners.

Many of these programme have been implemented with the support of several national and international grants provided by: Department of Basic Education, the ESRC-DfID, the National Education Collaboration Trust, the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), UNICEF, UNRWA, and the Zenex Foundation. The ESRC-DfID grants was implemented in collaboration with Oxford University in Tanzania and South Africa.

Our impact spans seven South African provinces, from the Eastern Cape to the Western Cape, collaborating closely with provincial education departments. We’ve also extended our support to other teacher unions: the National Teachers Union (NATU), South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), and the Suid Afrikaanse Onderwys Unie (SAOU).
